Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State (Trade up)

This scenario seems highly unlikely, but stranger things have happened in the NFL Draft before. While some teams are going to be incredibly high on Justin Fields, there are rumors that others have a fourth-round grade on him. This, to me, is preposterous, but if he ends up slipping to at least the 10th pick in the draft, the Steelers should sell the farm to go get him.

Finding a quality franchise quarterback is hard enough by itself, but being able to land one with Fields’ athletic profile and upside typically requires one of the very top picks in the draft. Ben Roethlisberger is now 39 years old and is likely entering his last season with the team. Trading up for Fields would help give Pittsburgh a remarkably smooth transition to their future.

In such a rare quarterback class, it’s possible that an immensely talented player like Justin Fields could fall within striking distance. Trading up for Fields at a reasonable cost is probably the single best thing the Steelers could do for the future of their franchise this April.

There are other quality players who could be available with the 24th pick, but these four scenarios would be some of the best moves the Steelers could make on draft day. I’m hoping we see one of them come to fruition.
