5 longshot draft picks that could fall to the Steelers
Micah Parsons LB, Penn State
There is no argument here. Parsons is a huge longshot to fall that low in the draft. In most mock drafts, you could put that at about 1%. However, with how specific team needs line up and with the draft order, it’s not impossible.
How Parsons falls to Pittsburgh
Again this is improbable at best as it’s hard to see some players going ahead of Parsons. Though it would not be the first draft in which a player falls unexpectedly. If the first four selections are quarterbacks, then Sewell or Pitts and Chase go five and six. Then Mac Jones goes at eight. Horn and Suritan could go and nine and ten. Then between the 11th and 20th pick, Slater, Cosmi, Jenkins, Tucker with any combination of Waddle, Kormoah, Payee, Harris, Etienne, Collins, Barmore, Waddle, Toney, or Pitts if he does not go in the first ten. Thus, leaving Parsons sitting at the 21st pick. Assuming the Colts, Titans and Jets do not opt for Parsons, as there is still Greg Newsome, Jaelen Phillips, Trevone Moehrig, Azeez Ojulari, Rondale Moore, Terrace Marshall, Greg Rousseau, or Jalen Mayfield.
Why Take Parsons
If Parsons happens to remain on the board at the 24th pick taking him would be a no-brainer. Players as talented as Parsons rarely fall that far in the first round. When they do, you take them. Sure he’s not an edge rusher; however, take someone as talented as Parsons and put him beside Devin Bush; how do you no have a vastly improved defense? Sure as unlikely as it is stranger things have happened. While you wouldn’t exactly want to wager on Parsons falling to the Steelers, if it plays out, no one would criticize the pick either.
