Mac Jones QB Alabama

Early in free agency, prospects had Mac Jones as a borderline first-rounder at best. Since then, his prospects have kept increasing. Now, after the San Francisco trade, quarterbacks seem to be a hot commodity all of a sudden. While it may be unlikely, he could fall to the Steelers.

How does Jones fall to Pittsburgh

As of right now, it seems inevitable the first three picks will be Quarterbacks Lawrence, Willson, and Fields or Lance. Then whoever does not number three goes between the fifth to eighth spot. Then the remaining six picks players off the board through the number ten selection are Pitts or Parsons, Sewell, Chase, Waddle, Smith, and Suritan. Then from picks 11-20,  you have the Bears and Vikings opt for offensive linemen like Tucker and Jenkins or Cosmi, and the Giants opt for Slater, the Raiders say Rousseau of Phillips. The patriots opt for Najee Harris or Kadarius Toney, with remaining teams snagging players such as Farley, Bateman, Phillips, Pitts, or Parsons; if either happens to fall this low, Kormoah, Paye, or Horn, then that pushes Jones to the 21st selection. It’s hard to envision the Colts and Titans taking a quarterback, and the Jets will have already taken Fields or Wilson, leaving Jones at the 24th selection.

Why take Jones

Not that quarterback is a huge need, the Steelers must address it at some point. Roethlisberger does not have much time left. Jones is talented and is the only other option available in the 2021 draft. If the Steelers should pass, then it possibly a free agent or a trade, the question of who becomes more convoluted. Otherwise, they table the quarterback dilemma until the 2022 draft.
