To the surprise of many, Mike Tomlin and the Steelers had a personal visit with TCU safety, Trevon Moehrig. Despite having one of the best in the league in Minkah Fitzpatrick and Terrell Edmunds coming off his best year as a professional football player, Pittsburgh at least has some level of interest if Moehrig were to fall to them at pick 24.

What the Steelers would do with him remains to be seen. Some have speculated that Keith Butler would put him at strong safety and move Edmunds to more of a nickel linebacker and dime backer role, while others think that Pittsburgh could simply start to use much more three-safety looks.

Moehrig was a thoroughly impressive player this past season. Though he tested as just a 74th percentile athlete, this is plenty good enough for a player at his position and is still well above average. What Moehrig lacks in elite athletic traits he makes up for with versatility and unmatched instincts. Moehrig pulled down 6 interceptions while breaking up 20 passes over the past two seasons. He’s a weapon in the back-half of the defense and there’s a very good chance he could be the best player available when the Steelers are on the clock with the 24th overall pick this year.
