Round 2: Tommy Tremble, TE, Notre Dame

I have gone back and forth between Tommy Tremble and Pat Freiermuth for my best-case scenario for Pittsburgh in round two, but I settled on the Notre Dame product. Though Tremble wasn’t nearly as productive in college as the big Penn State tight end, this is largely because he was such a phenomenal blocker on the move and was routinely used in this department.

When he has been given looks in the passing game, Tremble did not disappoint, and his upside as a receiver is remarkable. Tremble tested as an 89th percentile athlete, according to Relative Athletic Scores, and his combination of speed and explosion is impressive. Though Tremble isn’t as big as Freiermuth, he’s a more versatile player and his ability to dominate as a blocker and move in space as a receiver has caused some to liken him to George Kittle.

For Matt Canada’s offense, Tremble would be an absolute nightmare to opposing defense as he can lineup just about anywhere. Early in the draft process, Tremble may have seemed like a reach in the second round, but now I’m not so sure he even makes it this far. Tremble would fill a huge area of need for the Steelers at tight end and could be the first stable piece Pittsburgh has had at the position since Heath Miller.
