Inside Linebacker

First Round

In a draft set to feature an early run on offensive positions, the Steelers could be in the perfect landing spot to get a defensive player in the first round. While Robert Spillane is penciled in as the other starting inside linebacker, the depth behind him is bare. While there are options sprinkled throughout this draft, the team’s best bet may ultimately be taking an inside linebacker in the first round.

The options are endless here, as various projections have any of the top options falling all the way to 24. The fact of the matter is, if a player like Micah Parsons, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, or Zaven Collins find their way to the team’s first-round pick, it will be hard to pass on them. Having another dynamic linebacker next to Devin Bush would be a plus. It would make this defense that much more elite.

At the end of the day, the team needs to pick a player at this position in the draft. It is now extremely thin with the cut of Vince Williams. Unless the team adds a veteran soon, this linebacking group needs some talent. While this draft has other options later on that could work, an early run on offense could open the door for a linebacker to be the pick. It would fill a need and make this group that much more special.
