Chukwuma Okorafor

Now, straight up trading Chukwuma Okorafor with no contingency plan would be a huge mistake. That said, with the Steelers seemingly interested in a top tackle, keeping Okorafor on the roster would make little sense. Zach Banner is set to start given the contract he signed, and Joe Haeg will be the swing tackle/sixth offensive lineman. If the team takes a tackle in the first, Okorafor would be the odd man out.

Okorafor proved last year that he can be a talented starter in the league. He was raw coming out of Western Michigan, but he seems to be developing nicely. While he will never be a top tackle in the league, he should seemingly be an average starter from this point going forward. He is in the last year of his rookie deal though, and it doesn’t seem like the Steelers are overly keen on bringing him back.

If the team takes a first-round tackle as they have shown interest in, flipping Okorafor afterward would be a logical step. Offensive linemen have a lot of value in the league, and even just the reserve options can fetch late-round picks. Okorafor could be dealt for a fourth-round pick, and I would project him to be worth at least a sixth if he were dealt. If the Steelers don’t draft a tackle early then this is off the board, but if they do go tackle in the first, Okorafor could be on the move.
