While the Steelers will try to fill one of their needs in the first round, these four prospects are must drafts if they fall to pick 24.

With the draft almost upon us, the Steelers will be busy trying to fill in their holes with the young talent available. While needs at running back, offensive line, and cornerback will likely be the targets in the first, there are always prospects that seem to fall. This could be or myriad of reasons, or even no reason at all, but more often than not an unexpected player has a draft day fall. Even with the teams’ needs being clear, these four players should trump them and be the choice if they fall to pick 24.

I mean, could it happen? There seems to be a lot of pre-draft hype in the direction of the other quarterbacks. Zach Wilson quickly jumped Justin Fields in the pre-draft process, which made some sense given Wilson’s film and talent. Now though, options like Trey Lance and even Mac Jones seem to be in talks as the third and fourth best quarterback in the draft. A few mocks have seen Fields fall out of the top ten and some have even seen him falling to pick 24.

While it may not be likely, if the Steelers get a shot at drafting Fields, they have to do it. It isn’t often that a quarterback of that caliber falls that far in the draft, but with the quarterbacks being so top heavy there is a chance of it happening. Ben Roethlisberger is playing in what should be his final season, so having the opportunity to land a top quarterback prospect for the future would be huge. If his stock continues to dip, the Steelers will need to buy into him.
