The 2021 NFL Draft is just days away. Here are four best decisions the Pittsburgh Steelers could make on day one.

I can’t tell you the last time I’ve felt this anxious before the NFL Draft. This probably because I have a good idea of which direction the Steelers might elect to go at pick 24. With Ben Roethlisberger returning, Pittsburgh isn’t going to be so concerned about building a roster that can succeed down the road; rather, one that will stand a chance to compete in 2021.

No matter which side of the line you fall on, we all want what is best for the Steelers – both for the immediate future and the long term. Weighing all of the possible options for Pittsburgh early on day one, here are the four best decisions they can make for this franchise on draft day:

4. Take the best available offensive lineman

I’m not one who ever reaches based on positional need, and in a normal year, I would tell you that this would be a bad philosophy. While the 2021 NFL Draft is very weak at some positions like tight end and interior defensive line, it is a remarkably good offensive tackle class – primarily on the first two days of the draft.

Even if the top four offensive linemen are off the board by pick 24, the Steelers could have their option of quality football players who project as long-term starters with Pro Bowl upside such as Teven Jenkins, Landon Dickerson, Creed Humphrey, and Liam Eichenberg. As of now, Chukwuma Okorafor and B.J. Finney are both projected to be starters along Pittsburgh’s offensive line, and they could clearly use an upgrade. Whether the best offensive lineman available is a center or a tackle, the Steelers must consider taking him with the 24th pick.
