5 draft prospects for Steelers that no one is talking about
By Andrew Falce
Liam Eichenberg
While it seems more and more unlikely that the Steelers target a tackle in the first or second round, the fact that Liam Eichenberg isn’t talked about as an often link to the team is surprising. The team sent the house to Notre Dame, as Mike Tomlin, Kevin Colbert, and Adrian Klemm all were present to watch the Fighting Irish’s talent pool. In a deep tackle class, Eichenberg could be a realistic target at pick 55.
All of this goes beyond Eichenberg’s skill though. He is a steady and consistent tackle with the flexibility to play on either the left or right side. That kind of versatility would make him valuable to the team as currently, they would need more of a swing tackle over a conventional starter this season. Long term, he should be able to slide in as a left tackle and be a steady presence for the next ten or so years.
With the Steelers sending so many big names of their own to Notre Dame, there is some level of interest between the team and Eichenberg. Add in that he tested as a decent athlete and you suddenly have a very complete tackle prospect. It’s doubtful that the team goes tackle in the first round, but if he makes it to pick 55, all bets are off.
