5. Preparing to pick for the Draft – Maurkice Pouncey Retirement, Bud Depree signs with Tennessee, James Conner signs with Arizona

When my next article is published, I will discuss in further detail the positions the Steelers need to focus on selecting. One of those positions will be obvious as you know we were about 32nd in total rushing last season, and James Conner left for Arizona joining JJ there. The players like Jaylen Samuels, Trey Edmunds, and Bennie Snell are capable of completing the running routes though a better performing running back is not a bad thing, other factors such as blocking and play-calling from the opposing Defense did not result in the numbers the Steelers were hoping for.

Maurkice Pouncey announced his retirement, so we’re in the need of a new Center and Bud Depree signed with the Titans so a position at Linebacker is open. One very good thing is that there haven’t been too many bad picks the Steelers have selected over the years that did not translate over to a new season. Signing players from free agency or tanking is not what Pittsburgh is well known for, it is scouting the best talent in the Draft and maintaining a healthy team progression.
