Cornerback or Running Back might be the best options for Steelers to draft in Round 2

There is no question the Steelers are very interested in improving their running back and cornerback positions as they have moved on from 2020 starters CB Steven Nelson and RB James Connor.  Both CB and RB will likely be Steelers main focus for Day 2 of the NFL Draft if neither is addressed with the 24th overall pick.

Possible 2nd round targets of the Pittsburgh Steelers:

CB –  Steelers have shown some interest in CBs Asante Samuel and speedster Eric Stokes. There is a decent chance that one of them may be available when the Steelers are on the clock.  They should also consider one of my favorite CB of this draft class, Ifeatu Melifonwu, who I have ranked 31 overall.

Melifonwu is big at 6’2″ 205lbs runs in the 4.4s with a 41.5″ vertical, over 11ft broad jump, and a rare 1.48 10 yard split that shows his explosiveness. He is a physical tackler which Pittsburgh always covets and can really break on the ball. Either way, there will be options to improve the Steelers cornerback room.

RB –  This is where I’d consider taking a running back in the draft for the Steelers. The top 3 guys might be off the board by now but there have been rumors Steelers might consider taking Trey Sermon, the running back from Ohio State, whom I have a 3rd round grade on and ranked 66 overall.
