3 cornerbacks that the Steelers would be smart to draft
By Brendan Howe
Rodarius Williams
The older brother of Cleveland Browns cornerback Greedy Williams, Rodarius Williams manned the air for Oklahoma State for four seasons.
As a redshirt freshman, Williams worked his way into the starting lineup and matched a 37-year-old OSU record for pass breakups by a newcomer. Even with three campaigns of experience under his belt, he decided to come back for his senior go-round.
He came to materialize as one of the Big 12’s finest corners, defending a total of 31 passes in his 48 starts as a Cowpoke.
Williams shows tenacity similar to that of which Mike Hilton became endearing. He gladly charges in for run support and will lunge at pulling blockers to complicate a run play. With his nose for the football, he notched a remarkable 169 tackles in his college career.
His bump-and-run coverage could use some fine-tuning, but off-man with seamless breaks, he’s aggressive. While not the quickest defensive back, Williams adeptly contests 50-50 balls. Up to this point, he’s remained healthy and dependable.
Pundits predict that Williams will still be around on Saturday. If the Steelers choose to shore up other needs in earlier turns, he could be a late find for a secondary in flux.
