Steelers mock draft round 3: Tommy Tremble

The only thing keeping me from locking this selection in for Pittsburgh right now is that I really question his availability at this point in the NFL Draft. It doesn’t seem like any draft is ever particularly strong at the tight end position, and this year is no different. While Kyle Pitts will be gone within the first 10 picks this year, I don’t have a problem with anyone that wants to make the case that Tommy Tremble is TE2. In fact, I would tend to agree with you.

What could potentially cause him to fall this far is his severe lack of college production. During his time at Notre Dame, Tremble combined for just 401 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns in his collegiate career. Last year, he saw just 19 receptions for 218 yards and 0 touchdowns in 10 games. Though I do think Tremble could be a solid receiving option in the NFL, the fact that he operated almost solely as a blocker over the past two years behind tight ends Cole Kmet and Michael Mayer could cause him to fall to the third round.

As far as interest goes, the Steelers won’t be lacking any if he makes it back to this pick. While Tremble isn’t in the mold of a traditional tight end like Heath Miller), he’s a Swiss Army knife who can wear multiple hats for Pittsburgh as both a tight end and H-back. Tremble is a violent blocker who would be perfect for the Steelers new-look offense under Matt Canada.
