Day two didn’t give us exactly what we wanted, but Steelers filled big needs

For those wanting Pittsburgh to load up on offense in the first two days of the NFL Draft, you certainly got your wish. While the Steelers may not have gone with some of the players that were ranked higher on respected analysts’ boards, they still filled some massive positions of need.

Tight ends are just hard to find in general, as only a few good ones typically come out of each draft, and the Steelers really like Pat Freiermuth. They haven’t had real success at the position since Heath Miller retired, but the big Penn State product could really help them in this department. While I would have gone with Creed Humphrey at this pick, Pittsburgh was apparently comfortable with what they could get on the offensive line in round three.

Kendrick Green has plenty of upside and some analysts are quite high on him as a prospect. There are a lot of things about his game to love. Though many fans were disappointed that the team passed on Quinn Meinerz, this could prove to be a Kevin Dotson-like pick where the team just knows better than we do. At the very least, we can be thankful that this team has done a good job filling some of their biggest needs, and this should help them get back on track offensively in 2021.

It’s going to take some time for these rookies to get acclimated to the NFL game, but we saw how well their players from the 2020 draft class performed last year. If we can get similar production out of these three players, it will give Pittsburgh’s offense a sizable boost in 2021.
