Special teams: Chris Boswell, Pressley Harvin, Kameron Canaday
Typically, teams never want to spend a draft choice on a special teams player unless they are sure they can make the roster. The Steelers have tried and failed to replace punter Jordan Berry for a few years now, but they may have finally done so this offseason.
Pressley Harvin III is a 255-pound punter out of Georgia Tech, and he’s one the Steelers have clearly taken an interest in this offseason. I have him making the team over Berry. Meanwhile, Chris Boswell is still locked up under a sizeable contract and is coming off another very good season. He will be the kicker this year. I also have Kameron Canaday resuming his job as the long snapper.
As far as return men go, the Steelers didn’t really draft anybody that can be used in the capacity, and even if this was Najee Harris’ specialty, they wouldn’t risk putting him back there for these duties. Pittsburgh will likely roll with a player like Anthony McFarland on kick returns with Diontae Johnson or Ray-Ray McCloud manning punt return duties this fall.
There’s a chance I could be totally off base with some of these roster predictions, but I feel pretty confident that there maybe just a few changes when it’s all said and done. I will be sure to update this as we move closer to training camp.
