The Pittsburgh Steelers had a nice haul of rookies during the 2021 NFL Draft and those selections will benefit some veterans.

The 2021 NFL Draft saw the Steelers gain a total of 17 players through their selections and signing undrafted free agents. Not all of these players will make the final 53 man roster but they all have promise and a real chance to make the team out of training camp. There will be battles at different starting and depth spots along the different positions for this football team between now and the conclusion of the pre-season.

Some players have benefited from the recent draft class due to the positioning of the selections and where certain players will probably be placed on the depth chart when the first game of the season begins. These three players did not have their positions selected until later in the draft and that is why they benefited the most as they will have a great chance to start for this team at their positions.

Terrell Edmunds, Safety

Terrell Edmunds did not have his fifth-year option picked up and that was a surprise to many. There is little depth behind him and the only current starting-caliber player on the team is Edmunds. Safety was not a major need for this team heading into the draft but this news should’ve changed that thought process.

Without Edmunds potentially after the season, this safety spot is a major need going forward. Edmunds benefits because he will have no competition entering the year and will potentially leave following the season. The team will need to find depth during the pre-season process and that will be possible as guys will try to stick via special teams.
