3 Steelers players that benefited the most from the 2021 draft class
James Pierre, Cornerback
James Pierre was a nice addition through the undrafted free agency process from last year and he was a nice special team contributor. He had time to learn behind some solid corners during his rookie campaign but now he will get some defensive snaps. He could have a significant role on this team as the slot corner as long as he wins that spot in training camp. He will have to win that spot even though the Steelers refused to take a defensive back until the seventh round. There were a significant amount of defensive backs brought in through undrafted free agency so one of those players could battle for the slot corner spot as well.
Cam Sutton will play the opposite outside corner spot with Joe Haden. That is a nice one-two option even after losing players like Steven Nelson and Mike Hilton during the offseason. The depth behind them is limited with not much experience and that is another concern to go along with this roster. These players will have to continue their expression of talent on the field from now until the end of time for these coaches to keep them on the field. Pierre has a lot of work ahead of him between now and being named the starting nickel corner but it seems like his spot to lose.
The Steelers will have some players that they will count on more heavily after the draft. These three players benefited the most by the team’s most recent selections.
