TE Pat Freiermuth

Despite all the talent he has on the field, and the professionalism he has shown off the field, the doubters are right that he can’t be as successful as they hope without some help up front, which is why the next pick surprised many even more.

The Steelers used their second-round selection on Pat Freiermuth, a tight end out of Penn State. This pick came as a surprise due to the glaring needs at center and left tackle, however, Freiermuth was rated too high for the Steelers to pass him up, and tight end was also a need for them. Freiermuth has drawn comparisons to Heath Miller, so the fit is obvious, as he is a throwback tight end, and differs from the newer model of athletic matchup nightmares.

Rather, Freiermuth is a well-rounded tight end, who has very reliable hands and can serve as a weapon in both the passing game and the running game. Like Miller, Freiermuth is known for his blocking, serving as one of the best blocking tight ends in the draft, and will serve as a massive addition to the run game, while also serving as a perfect complement to Eric Ebron.
