Cam Sutton plays better than Joe Haden
Joe Haden has been a great addition ever since signing onto the team a couple of years ago. He and Steven Nelson combined for the best cornerback tandem in the NFL for the last couple of seasons but that is going to change. Steven Nelson is not coming back and other pieces of this secondary are in flux. Cam Sutton will be the starting outside corner opposite of Haden after this off-season’s many departures.
Even though the secondary is still looking for a starting slot corner to replace Mike Hilton, this should be a solid group moving forward. Sutton showed great glimpses into what he can do going forward while serving in a small role for this team.
Haden has been a positive contributor to this defense both with his play and as a leader for the Steelers. He is getting older so some decline in his game could begin to show sometime in the future. Even if his game dips a little bit, he is still going to be a solid NFL corner. Sutton still has to prove that he can handle being an every-down corner for this defense but he has all the tools to do so. He has had time to learn behind some amazing talents all while playing snaps and gaining on-field experience. Sutton will surprise fans with his stout coverage and play during the first year of starting for the former Tennessee Volunteer.
