Chase Winovich

Chase Winovich has been a hot name on the trade market ever since the reports came out that he wasn’t a fan of the Bill Belichick ran Patriots. These rumors only heated up when the Patriots spent big money on Matthew Judon and Kyle Van Noy this offseason and then went on to draft Ronnie Perkins in the third round of this past draft. Add in former second-round pick Josh Uche still being on the roster and now, Winovich seems buried on the depth chart.

With the Steelers having a clear and obvious need at pass-rushing depth, trying to add Winovich sometime during training camp would be a wise move. Winovich fits perfectly as an outside linebacker in the Steelers scheme, and his 11 sacks over two seasons despite only starting nine games showcases his value as a situational player. He would instantly be the top backup edge rusher and could even push Alex Highsmith for a starting job.

While he seems like a player that would require a decent draft pick to get, his sudden flight down to the bottom of the depth chart makes him seem like the Patriots don’t value him that much. That said, the Patriots are constantly one of the fickler teams when it comes to trading, so who knows what it would actually cost. That said, the Steelers would be wise to at least call and see where Winovich’s value comes in at. He would be a huge win if the Steelers could add him to the depth chart.

While the Steelers are set to bring the roster they have into camp, there are still holes that need to be filled in order to house a complete depth chart. These six names above have all seemed to fall out of favor with their current teams and could be intriguing trade options. The team has made quite a few trades in recent camps, so adding any of the six names above would make sense and go a long way in bettering this roster.
