5 Steelers players on the roster bubble ahead of OTAs
By Tommy Jaggi
Carlos Davis, defensive tackle
Carlos Davis made the team as a 7th round rookie last season, and with three extremely cheap years remaining on his contract, perhaps this could be a deciding factor that would persuade the team to keep him around for the near future. However, his path to the final roster is not going to come easy in 2021.
After re-signing both Tyson Alualu and Chris Wormley this offseason, I was shocked when the Steelers traded away a 2022 4th round pick to land Wisconsin defensive lineman, Isaiahh Loudermilk. Though Davis and Loudermilk will play very different positions on this defensive line, there are only so many roster spots to go around, and at least one player on the DL is going to get the boot.
There may only be one or two spots to go around for Carlos Davis, Isaiah Buggs, and Henry Mondeaux. Davis is the youngest of the group and has impressive athletic traits for a player his size (6’2”, 313 pounds). However, he will really need to prove himself in OTAs and during training camp this year if he wants to stick around as a rotational defensive tackle for the long haul. Davis will be fighting tooth and nail for a role on this team in 2021.
