6 Steelers with the most to prove in 2021-2022

The Pittsburgh Steelers quietly reworked a lot of their roster so far this offseason.

I can easily admit that I was disappointed in how the Steelers 2020 campaign ended. Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert have shown with their actions how they felt as well. A lot of roster turnover has already happened, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

With that being said it isn’t too soon to think about who could be next to go, after, or even during next season. There are multiple players with the most to prove that could find themselves no longer members of the black and gold next season.

Both Zach Banner and Chuks Okorafor are among those with the most to prove.

I slotted Banner and Chuks together for the same reason. Dan Moore was just drafted in the 4th round. Pittsburgh has a tendency to draft offensive linemen in the middle rounds, and then develop them for a season before allowing them to start. That is doubly true for exterior offensive linemen i.e, tackles.

While Banner has 2 years left on his deal, Chuks is in his contract year. I fully expect Pittsburgh to have both Banner and Chuks compete before making a decision on which is starting at left tackle. Moore will probably start off as the swing tackle and primary backup to the previous two. We saw them approach Banner in a similar manner just two seasons ago.

While I highly doubt the Steelers will cut Banner or Chuks mid-season, it is somewhat possible Moore could do enough in practice or filling in for an injury that he wins someone’s job. I was a bit surprised that Kevin Dotson had not been given a starting role mid-2020 after playing so well filling in for an injury. At some points, Dotson, who was our 4th rd pick last year, looked like the best offensive lineman on our roster. Dotson did, however, make Feiler expendable when the season was over. If Moore impresses, the same could be said of possibly Banner or Chuks.
