Eric Ebron is another player I am sad to put on this list

I absolutely love Ebron’s threat as a receiver. When he is on his game, he can create mismatches all over the field against any team in the league. The problem is that he goes through spurts where drops are far too common. What really makes 2021 the season where he has to prove himself is that he is in a contract year, within an offense that will be tooled for him to succeed.

This is Matt Canada’s first year as the offensive coordinator for the Steelers. Something I have come to notice after studying Canada’s offenses in college is that Canada loves using backs and tight ends. He likes to create as many mismatches in the passing game as possible, to truly elevate his roster. For the same reason I feel that Derek Watt could have an impact on the offense this year, I believe Ebron should have a great year. All the pieces should be put in place for #85 to have a career year in 2021.

Pittsburgh is Ebron’s 3rd team at 28 years old. This is probably his last chance to be a starting tight end on a winning team. The addition of Pat Freiermuth in the 2nd round is only going to apply more pressure in this situation. There is no team in the league that is willing to spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on a tight end without planning on giving him significant snaps. If Ebron doesn’t have a phenomenal year, his starting job in the Steel City is gone. If he can’t fix his drop issues as a receiving type tight end, his all-pro potential will be for nothing.
