NFL minicamps are just around the corner. Here are three players the Pittsburgh Steelers should sign before the start of their 2021 minicamp.

We are now entering the period in which teams make last-minute adjustments to their rosters before offseason workouts and camps begin. Whether that is through trades, releasing players, or signing free agents, most teams’ minicamps start in June, and it will be here where coaches, fans, and scouts can begin to get a sense of who will be someone to watch this upcoming season. There are many free agents still available that have not been signed that the Steelers should consider signing before minicamp.

These contracts can be low risk, and if they sign now, the player will be available at training camp. The Steelers lost seven free agents this offseason, and while most of the players who left can be replaced, those players’ veteran status cannot. Most of the free agents left would be able to come in and guide the rookies, especially with the first player I am going to mention.

1. Richard Sherman, Cornerback

When Richard Sherman entered the league, he was a fifth-round draft pick that many looked past. However, Sherman became among the league’s best cornerbacks and helped Seattle make it to two Super Bowls by being a part of the Legion of Boom. When Sherman ruptured his Achilles in Seattle, no one knew if he would be the same player.

Yet, Sherman went on to sign with the 49ers the next year and was an All-Pro that shows you that he still has it and is someone the Steelers should want on their team. Richard Sherman has even expressed interest in signing with the Steelers. When asked by Stephen A Smith, he stated, “I’m good with that. I’m not afraid of the AFC North, you know. It’s a good division. I’d like Pittsburgh. It’s cold, I’d have to bring my winter clothes.”

If the Steelers were to bring in Sherman, there would be little to no risk. He provides a unique veteran presence that both the locker room and the rookies can use to help bolster their chemistry. I can see why the Steelers would not want to sign Sherman due to the salary cap and how he may ask for too much as a 33-year-old corner with an injury history. Regardless, Richard Sherman is my number one player the Steelers should sign before minicamp.
