Interceptions

Roethlisberger is a dynamic quarterback, that’s not in doubt. He’s also a miracle worker that’s what made Roethlisberger special. But the pressure for Ben to win the games has hampered his ability to work miracles.

From 2004-2010 he had 22 game-winning drives coming to 3.14 per season and .22 per game, with 17 4th quarter comebacks averaging 2.42 per season and .17 per game. The Steelers also won two titles. Since 2011 he had 24 game-winning drives averaging 2.4 per season and .242 per game. He had 18 4th quarter comebacks with an average of only 1.8 per season and .13 per game and no titles.  If the Steelers want to win another Superbowl with Ben Roethlisberger, well, in the 2021 draft, the evidence is clear they need a game-changing running back.

Look at the defensive side of the ball. The same thing occurred. From 2001-2010 the Steelers had 167 interceptions. They averaged 16.7 a season and 1.04 per game. If you narrow that to the seven years Roethlisberger ran the Steelers’ offense, their interceptions stayed consistent. From 2004-2010 they had 118 interceptions averaging out to 16.85 per season and 1.05 per game. So the interceptions frequency increased within those seven years while the Steelers won 2 titles in three Superbowl appearances. From 2011-2020 the Steelers only have 134 interceptions averaging only 13.4 per season with a meager .83 picks per game, a dramatic decrease.
