4 former rivals Pittsburgh Steelers must consider signing in 2021

EDGE John Simon
While not as big of a name as Sheard, John Simon may present a more realistic option for Pittsburgh. The eight-year pro has spent time with New England, Houston, Baltimore, and Indianapolis while playing both defensive end and outside linebacker.
Simon may not be a flashy player but he has plenty of experience and has played in playoff games. According to Pro Football Reference, Simon has made 52 starts and accrued 21 sacks during his eight-year NFL career. Similar to when the Steelers signed Tyson Alualu, Simon could serve as a veteran presence for Pittsburgh who thrives later in his career when surrounded by talented players such as Watt, Cameron Heyward, and Stephon Tuitt.
Simon’s versatility could help the Steelers as he could play outside linebacker, for the most part, serving as a depth and rotational piece, but could also step in at defensive end if needed.
Most importantly, Simon likely wouldn’t come at a high price tag, and could likely be linked to a one-year contract. His versatility, experience, and price tag, combined with him playing a position of need make him an ideal target in free agency for the Steelers.
