Charlie Batch

Charlie Batch is a hometown kid that made it into the NFL and eventually had a nice career as the backup in Pittsburgh for many seasons. He has continued to be an amazing charitable person in the community and has helped this city a lot. Another thing he has besides playing experience is broadcasting on his resume. He has been calling the Steelers pre-season games alongside Bob Pompeani for the past handful of years and this could be a nice option. The fans know who he is and he has a good way of explaining the game to listeners just like Ilkin did. He also knows some current players and coaches on this team from his playing days and could give great insight into what those people are thinking.

This one makes a ton of sense that many might not be considering while the team whittles down the finalists for this coveted position. His personality and local appeal to fans is something the franchise will covet while looking for a replacement along with potential prior professional NFL experience and interaction with the team. Batch has all of those things on his resume and it seems like he could be a great choice and one the team could have around for the long haul. If the team is looking for someone to stick around and choose a name everyone will recognize, this option is their best.
