Craig Wolfley

Craig Wolfley just seems like the natural replacement for his friend, Tunch Ilkin. He has been helping both Ilkin and Hillgrove in the booth with his sideline reports for years now. His funny personality and unique phrases have made him a fan favorite. He has prior playing experience as he played offensive line for the team before getting into broadcasting after his playing career. Ilkin and Wolfley share a very close bond as they joined the broadcasting element together and played along the offensive trenches together as well. The experience is there and it just seems like the most likely option for the Steelers to promote him to this position. The biggest question is if he will want the job.

His best friend is retiring and he is not getting any younger but this would be the perfect “in-house” hire for the team moving forward. He knows the game like the back of his hand, he played for the franchise, and his fun personality will make fans love to listen to the games. Not only does he possess those qualities, but he also brings a familiar voice to the radio that will help fans cope without hearing Ilkin on the call on gamedays. This seems like the “favorite” to replace Ilkin when the time comes to announce the hire but they could always look in another direction and keep Wolfley where he is at currently.

It will be interesting to see who the Steelers hire for Likin’s replacement when that time arrives. This person has big shoes to fill but luckily they have a nice array of talent to choose from.
