Joe Haden has been a terrific free agent signing by the Pittsburgh Steelers – possibly one of the best in their storied history. Since joining the team in 2017, Haden has been a staple to one of the league’s best defenses and has earned Pro Bowl honors in 2019. In addition, the veteran has collected 10 interceptions over his past four seasons in Pittsburgh.

Sadly, Haden’s run with the Steelers could be coming to an end, and it makes a lot of sense as to why. With Ben Roethlisberger almost certainly gone after the 2021 season, what reason would the Steelers have for bringing back a cornerback that will be 33 years old when his career is clearly on the downturn?

Haden has a $15.5 million cap hit in 2021, but his contract expires after this year. Even if the long-time starting cornerback isn’t looking to retire, he may have to finish his career elsewhere, as the Steelers could be looking for a younger, fresher cornerback as they begin to rebuild with a new quarterback at the helm.

Like it or not, 2021 could very well be Joe Haden’s last year with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Even though he’s only been with the Steelers during the back nine of his career, he has been one of the best cornerbacks this team has had in decades. It will be sad to watch him go. Let’s hope he makes it a good one (which is what we’ve come to know with him).
