Most likely NFL comparison: Cameron Brate

Here’s a quality NFL tight end who is often overlooked. Just because Cameron Brate doesn’t get a lot of recognition doesn’t mean he’s not a good player. At 6’5” and roughly 250 pounds, Brate shares a very similar size profile with Pat Freiermuth, and they both win in similar ways. Despite not being an elite athlete, Brate is a good route runner with strong hands and can win over the middle of the field in the passing game.

Unforturnly, Brate never really developed into a dominant blocking tight end in the NFL. As a result, he has always split time at his position with another player who has been more of an inline guy. Still, Brate has graded out as a quality football player in nearly every season since entering the league back in 2014.

Freiermuth has a similar size and athletic profile as Brate, but we are hoping he develops into a better blocker for the Pittsburgh Steelers. If he doesn’t quite reach his full potential, he could prove to be a quality football player who’s never really considered among the best tight ends in the game – much like Cameron Brate.

I like Pat Freiermuyth, but I’m certainly not going to give him the “Rob Gronkowski” comparison anytime soon. Though he should prove to be a quality player for the Steelers, Freiermuth is still somewhat raw and just average as an athlete. If he can become Hunter Henry without all the injuries, I would be very pleased with this selection.
