Re-signing JuJu Smith-Schuster

JuJu Smith-Schuster has been a fan-favorite for the Steelers ever since he was drafted. Many expected the young veteran to depart the team via free agency after a nice career in the black and gold. Another major reason fans expected him to leave was the amount of talent and depth behind him on the roster last season. Smith-Schuster was a luxury last year and one that seemed to become expendable when free agency opened. The market was not kind to the position he plays and he sat there for a while. Eventually, Pittsburgh gained enough cap space to re-sign Smith-Schuster on a one-year deal that paid him a reasonable cap number for his contributions on a football field.

The major mistake the Steelers made with bringing this player back was what it ended up costing them. Steven Nelson was let go along with other cap maneuverings so Smith-Schuster could return to the team. This move caused the franchise to neglect a serious need for starting spot and depth at the cornerback position and bring back a player for one of riches. There are a ton of talented receivers on this team with players like Chase Claypool, Diontae Johnson, and James Washington. This player should not have been brought back because other major needs had to be focused on instead.
