Too many players lost and not replaced upfront

The offensive line lost names like Maurkice Pouncey, Matt Feiler, and Al Villanueva during the offseason and those are all starting players in the NFL. This group used to be one of the best in the league but they have lost their effectiveness over the past couple of years. Maybe the change was inevitable but the team has not put in much effort to fix the issues along the offensive trenches. There has been a lack of highly drafted linemen for the Steelers ever since they reformed this group and that was a major error a couple of years ago. Now they are putting their full trust in a very young and inexperienced group, besides David DeCastro. This could become a major problem for the black and gold if these players cannot come together and gel early in the season.

Pittsburgh could have done more to find replacements at the tackle position during the offseason. They could always add someone between now and the first week of the regular season but it doesn’t seem likely. Instead of bringing back JuJu Smith-Schuster, that money would have been better off used either re-signing Al Villanueva or adding another veteran free agent to a one-year stopgap contract. The inexperience of this group is a major concern and one that just seems like a major mistake by the team from the Steel City as we ramp up into the pre-season process.

The Steelers seem to have made some mistakes during this offseason. The good news is they might be able to correct some of these issues but the bad news is they are running out of time.
