7 greatest Pittsburgh Steelers of the Ben Roethlisberger era
By Scott Long
7. T.J. Watt
Despite having played only four seasons with the Steelers thus far, T.J. Watt has already made a huge name for himself. Watt seems poised to jump up higher on this list if he and the team are able to come to terms on a long-term extension, as he is on pace to shatter the Steelers’ records in tackles for loss and sacks.
According to Pro Football Reference, Watt has 49.5 career sacks, 59 tackles for loss, and 111 quarterback hits. He’s already eighth in Steelers history in sacks and tackles for loss, and third in quarterback hits.
Watt has already been named a First-Team All-Pro player twice while making three Pro Bowls. He’s quickly established himself as arguably the league’s second-best defensive player behind Aaron Donald and seems to show no signs of slowing down.
While it is still very early and a lot can happen, if Watt continues to play at this level, not only will he move up on this list, but he will likely win at least one Defensive Player of the Year Award, and could be looking at a road to Canton, Ohio.
