Adrian Peterson is just a shade of his younger self, but here are three reasons why it would make sense for the Steelers to sign him.

I’m not oblivious to the fact that the Steelers just spent a first-round pick on a running back for the first time since taking Rashard Mendenhall back in 2008. Najee Harris is a do-it-all workhorse back who will be able to operate as a runner, blocker, and receiver for Pittsburgh. He’s a guy that you will rarely want to take off the field, and he should help make this offense better in 2021. However, that doesn’t mean that we can’t add more talent to the running back room.

Adrian Peterson is just a shade of his younger self, but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t have anything left to offer in his old age. The future Hall of Fame running back would still hold value to this team – even with the recent addition of Harris. Here are three reasons why the Steelers should consider signing Peterson:

Peterson could offer the Steelers experienced depth

If there’s one thing Steelers running backs are currently lacking, it’s any sort of sizeable NFL experience. Though Benny Snell is entering his third year in the NFL, he has played a reserve role to begin his NFL career. Additionally, speedster Anthony McFarland has just 33 carries under his belt after his rookie season.

While you don’t necessarily need experience to have a successful running back room, Adrian Peterson has been there and done that. He knows how to keep his pad level low and churn forward for extra yardage, and he’s been in just about every situation imaginable. He could provide some much-needed experience to a group of running backs that barely have any NFL action between them.
