Justin Layne

Many fans have forgotten about Justin Layne with all of the talk about James Pierre throughout this offseason. Layne did make news with some law trouble around the beginning of the new league year in the NFL. He looks to be out of trouble with the law and the Steelers might need this player to step up now. Many forget that this cornerback was a third-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft and that normally means that player will start for your team sooner or later. Layne is mostly just an outside corner but he could always get a look at the starting slot-corner position as well.

Another idea is to have Cam Sutton slide back into his slot position where he thrived and have your former third-round selection start opposite of Joe Haden on the outside. Layne needs to show something to this team or they will be moving on quickly as his time is running out. There were great players ahead of him before where he could learn and grow slowly but now it’s his time to contribute. This player could solve a lot of issues if he can become a solid contributor at cornerback for this defense starting in 2021. This corner will be a big boom or bust contender for this upcoming season as the black and gold are going to count on him going forward.
