CB Cameron Sutton

Cameron Sutton has been terrific early in his NFL career and has shown improvement in each season. Unfortunately, he has never been more than a part-time player for Pittsburgh.

After playing 25 percent of snaps in each of his first three seasons, that number rose to 53 percent of defensive snaps in 2020, according to Pro Football Reference. Still, that isn’t anywhere near what he will be asked to do for the Steelers in 2020.

Sutton is going to be thrust into a much larger role in a secondary that lost both Mike Hilton and Steven Nelson this offseason. While he has been good at wearing multiple hats in the secondary in the past, he was doing so with limited snaps. Now the team could ask him to switch back and forth from the outside right cornerback position to the slot – depending on the formation.

Sutton is a very smart player who has been impressive early in his career, but so much rides on his health and ability to perform in a full-time role in 2021.

These three players still have a lot to prove on the Steelers. If they can each take a step forward in 2021, it will give Pittsburgh assurance and some very important positions. Let’s hope they can all meet the lofty expectations the team apparently has for them.
