Chuck Noll

Chuck Noll is someone that does not get a lot of attention when people speak about Steelers greats. Most look at the players and that makes sense but it takes a mindset and development of those players to make a franchise into something special. Noll did that with the Steelers as he turned them from a joke of a team to one that every squad in the NFL wanted to emulate.

He was brought in as the coach in 1969 and immediately changed the entire atmosphere for football in Pittsburgh. Before he changed the team around, not many people focused nor cared about the team that played along the three rivers. He drafted the guys that he believed in and helped develop them into one of the best dynasties in NFL history.

Noll won four Super Bowls in the 1970s and was able to create a new culture for this once failing franchise. He showed the Steelers and the city that it plays for that this team can win and be consistent winners moving forward. Since Noll, this team has gone onto win two more Super Bowls, win countless division titles, continued playoff appearances, and little turnover in their coaching staff and front office. Not only did he turn a punchline of an NFL franchise into one of the best in their history but he also allowed for the Steelers way to be paved after he retired.
