OT Zach Banner

Have you ever seen a more talked-about offensive tackle who had just 2 NFL starts by the age of 27? Though Zach Banner could still prove to be a good player, you would think that the fact that he has almost no game experience and has been on three different teams would make him a candidate to be underrated. However, I don’t see it that way at all.

Fans are automatically assuming that Banner is going to give Pittsburgh’s offensive line a huge boost with his return in 2020, but until we see evidence of this, I’m not sure why we should believe it. When Banner did start his only game last season, he was certainly less than impressive before leaving the game in the fourth quarter.

Now Banner is fresh off an ACL injury and still hasn’t proven a thing in the NFL. Yet fans want to assume that he is going to be a cornerstone to this offensive line? I know that Mike Tomlin has a lot of confidence in the big offensive tackle (as evidenced by his $9.5 million contract over the next two seasons). However, it’s hard to argue that Banner isn’t overrated. We have seen nothing on the NFL stage so far. He is a complete projection that many fans already want to dub as the next great Steelers offensive lineman.
