Is Ben Roethlisberger still the right fit for the Steelers?
On April 24th, 2004, the Pittsburgh Steelers drafted their franchise quarter Ben Roethlisberger with the eleventh pick in the first round.
Since then, Roethlisberger has worked to become the face of the Pittsburgh Steeler franchise. Despite the former Miami Redhawk’s pair of Super Bowl rings, many have questioned if age has become a problem for the Steelers strong-armed gunslinger.
When it comes to the conversion of clutch quarterbacks in the National Football League, Ben Roethlisberger should be a name up for discussion. Since joining the organization in 2004, Ben has been able to aid in the franchise’s traditions of success. One of Roethlisberger’s prime time moments was the 2005-2006 NFL Season.
With four games left in the 2005-2006 regular season, the Steelers needed a late-season surge. If they were able to win the last four games of the NFL season, they would make the NFL postseason. Pittsburgh was led by a stout defensive presence, a downhill running attack, and of course a young Ben Roethlisberger.
When the season ended and the confetti dropped, the Steelers were NFL Champions. Three years later Ben Roethlisberger would incorporate the Steelers’ winning recipe with the leadership of head coach Mike Tomlin. Together they were able to win another Super Bowl title in 2009.
Since then, the Steelers have only made it back to the AFC Championship game twice.
What Have You Done For Me Lately?
After a disappointing end to an 11-0 start last season, the Steelers hope to find new footing this season. Although Roethlisberger was able to throw for 3803 yards and 35 touchdowns, it was not enough to carry the team when they needed it most. When compared to his colleagues, Ben was ranked statically as the 16th best starting quarterback in the NFL. While new & fresh stars emerge such as Lamar Jackson and Patrick Maholmes, it is as if Roethlisberger is just a man trying to face off time.
After watching some of the best quarterbacks in the last twenty years retire, many are wondering when Roethlisberger will hang up his shoulder pads. Quarterbacks such as Peyton Manning, Eli Manning & Drew Bress have all decided to move on from playing the game of football.
The Pittsburgh Steelers organization decided to keep Ben Roethlisberger on the roster for the 2021-2022 NFL season, Although Roethlisberger will be making a salary of 14 million instead of 19 million, the Steelers still believe he can produce at a high level. Pittsburgh was able to add some new weapons to their offense to aid in Ben’s upcoming success. newly added Rookie running back Najee Harris and tight end Pat Freirmuth should help Roethlisberger have a strong year.
