Nobody drew a shorter straw on the Steelers this offseason than Benny Snell. The former 4th round pick was listed atop of Pittsburgh’s depth chart for a brief moment after James Conner signed with the Arizona Cardinals, but now the young running back is in a worse situation then he was a year ago at this time.

The Steelers took Najee Harris with their first-round draft choice, and he will no doubt see a lion’s share of the carries for the team moving forward. In addition, second-year speedster, Anthony McFarland will be out to prove his worth in 2021. McFarland already has a relationship with Matt Canada as he was a former coach of his at Maryland.

Between Harris’s workhorse ability and McFarland’s potential to be a solid change-of-pace with elite speed and big-play ability, Snell doesn’t have any defining traits to see the field very often unless an injury occurs to Harris. No player’s stock was hurt more by the 2021 NFL Draft than Snell’s and he will have to fight tooth and nail just to see a few snaps here and there.

Injuries can always play a factor in the NFL, but fully expect these three players to see a reduced role in 2021 – even if a few of them didn’t necessarily get bumped down on the Steelers depth chart.
