Jameis Winston, Saints

Jameis Winston is a very difficult evaluation, as the last time we saw him play significant snaps was his infamous 33 TD, 30 INT season in 2019. He was left on the bench in favor of the do-it-all weapon Taysom Hill when Drew Brees missed time due to injury last season. The decision was likely made due to head coach Sean Payton’s affinity for Hill, seeing the injury to Brees as an opportunity to see Hill be a true QB.

Even so, the fact Winston was passed over for an over-30 project QB who had significantly less experience as a starter is surprising. I don’t see him losing a camp battle to Hill, but if he either does or looks the same as he did in 2019, he may not be in high demand as a starter. That’s where the Steelers come in. Winston is definitely the best arm talent that could be available next season, and his aggressive style could be beneficial for the young receivers.

Winston has to show at least some improvement in his decision-making to be a good fit for Canada’s offense, but he would at the very least be fun to watch. Maybe now that he can actually see, he will throw more passes to his teammates and less to opposing defenders.
