CB Steven Nelson

This one just makes far too much sense to ignore. Obviously, there might be a little bad blood between the two sides after the way that Steven Nelson was released so late in the free agency process. He felt the team should have done so sooner to give him a better chance to sign a big deal with a new squad.

The Steelers would have to extend the hand of friendship once more and ask him to come back to the team. Nelson could really help this group out in 2021. Though his 2020 season was quite as good as his 2019 campaign, he was still a quality starting cornerback who certainly didn’t lack physicality.

At 28 years old, Nelson is right in the prime of his NFL career, and he would likely sign a one-year deal in an effort to cash in again in 2022. With the addition of Melvin Ingram and the return of Devin Bush from Injured Reserve, this defensive group would rival what Pittsburgh had last year if Nelson returns. This would allow Cameron Sutton to move back inside as the full-time slot option in nickel and dime.

The Steelers look to be a competitive team again in 2021, but adding these three players could help them in a closing Super Bowl window. They’ve already fixed the edge rusher position with Melvin Ingram, now it’s time to sure up a few other depth concerns before training camp.
