Steelers Special Teams (3)

Chris Boswell, Pressley Harvin, Kameron Canaday

The Steelers actually have some competition here worth noting. While kicker and long snapper are pretty secure, punter should actually be a training camp battle. On paper, it should actually be a pretty good one, as both players have opposite styles that should be telling of what the team wants in their punting unit. Incumbent Jordan Berry has great placement, but he struggles to consistently punt deep enough. Pressley Harvin is the opposite, as he has an incredibly strong leg but lacks consistency and placement on shorter punts.

That all said, the Steelers did use a seventh-round pick on Harvin, so until some actual tape between the two comes up, he gets the early nod. Just don’t lock him into the roster yet, as being a drafted specialist doesn’t mean you are promised a roster spot. As for the rest of the unit, there is little legitimate competition on the roster right now. Sam Sloman has some experience, but he is likely there to give Chris Boswell a rest and to be a name to call if injury occurs in 2021.

While a lot of speculation right now, Kameron Canaday could use some competition at this point. While he has been a solid long snapper to this point, he had some snapping struggles in 2020. While an experienced holder (that being Berry) can hide some of that, a rookie like Harvin could struggle with some sub-par snaps. At this point, he owns the job, but another long snapper could be brought in to compete.
