Steelers Defensive Line (7)

Another bolder prediction that I’m sticking with from my first roster prediction, I think the Steelers will keep seven defensive linemen on the roster. Typically, this is a group that the team only carries six at given the depth that is needed here. There is one lone answer as to why the team could keep seven here, and it isn’t for a traditional starter here.

The reason for this anomaly is Henry Mondeaux. While far from a good starter, he is a capable reserve in run defense and has a unique special teams’ trait that should help keep his job. He can play on every phase of special teams, including running down kicks, which makes him a truly unique defensive lineman. I have him making the team as the final player essentially, a core special teamer that should see little snaps beyond that role.

Beyond a special circumstance like Mondeaux, this roster is already pretty set. The last roster battle will be between rookie Isaiahh Loudermilk and Isaiah Buggs. While Buggs has flashed as a pass rusher, the Steelers trading up for Loudermilk is pretty substantial. While not a guarantee, I’m going to assume that Loudermilk makes the final squad. Buggs is a big name missing, but he could be dangled as trade bait to a team thinner upfront.
