Steelers P Pressley Harvin III
Pressley Harvin has quickly become a fan favorite before people have even had a chance to flock to training camp to see him. You don’t see many punters with his squatty build as his college profile lists him at 5’11” and 263 pounds, according to Sports Reference.
Though Harvin is 8 years younger than Jordan Berry (his biggest competition for a roster spot), the Steelers have allowed older players to win this job. They did so last year – preferring a 38-year-old Dustin Colquitt over Berry before reverting back to Berry in Week 7.
In past years, the Steelers have gone with the punter who has looked best during training camp, and if Harvin isn’t outputting Berry, he won’t be on the roster. It’s really as simple as that.
Harvin was good at Georgia Tech and he averaged 48.0 yards per punt as a senior last year, but it’s important to remember that he was just a very late seventh-round pick. Fans will hope the young, new punter will win the starting job, but this isn’t a guarantee as some might think. It’s possible that he may have to spend a year on the practice squad and try again for a roster spot in 2022.
