Lack of Interaction

As I mentioned the fan atmosphere will change for this year’s training camp, a big part will be gone as the interaction with players and staff won’t be present as COVID protocols are still in effect, though not as strictly as before.

Training Camp is the one part of the football year that Steelers’ players get to show their appreciation to the Steeler Nation fans that have stood by them through the good and bad years. Whether that is by photographs, autographs, conversations, interviews, Facebook, or social media posts, it is a free way to give back to the fans through companionship. I was able to meet Roethlisberger, Brett Kiesel, Ryan Clark, and Hall of Famer Rod Woodson during my visits to Latrobe.

Although the country as a whole is about halfway to the threshold of vaccinations, the NFL and the Steelers are taking a sign of precaution to lessen the spread even more, which is a total bummer for those that look forward to this time of the year. At least open practice is back and that’s what the fans do want in the end. A full crowd on game days would be icing on the cake, but that’s 4 weeks from now.
