Pittsburgh needs several young players to step up big in 2021. Here are four players who are drawing a lot of buzz early at Steelers training camp.

With eight starters and several key contributors departing from Pittsburgh earlier this offseason, it’s clear that the Steelers could go through some growing pains in 2021. They are set to have four new starters along their offensive line with a new OL coach and offensive coordinator who are working with the league’s 32nd-ranked rushing offense from a season ago.

Defensively, this team lost Bud Dupree and two big players in the secondary in Mike Hilton and Cameron Suton. Forntautly, some young Steelers have already started to turn heads early in training camp this year, and they could be in line for much more work.

On the other hand, there are a few players who are off to a rocky start in July. Here is my early Steelers training camp stock report:

EDGE Alex Highsmith

Just like he did as a former walk-on at Charlotte, Alex Highsmith slowly continues to impress. Recently, Keith Butler expressed his satisfaction with Highmsith’s progress, stating that he had 11 like him.

After it finally appeared that Highsmith was going to win an uncontested starting gig in 2021, Pittsburgh brought in veteran Pro Bowl pass rusher, Melvin Ingram. Highsmith is still listed as the starter on the team’s initial depth chart, but Ingram will challenge him.

Fortunately, Highsmith has yet to disappoint, and it seems like he is only receiving praise for his effort in camp so far. Even Melvin Ingram – his biggest competitor for snaps this year – was sure to compliment him in early media sessions. Highsmith’s stock only seems to continue to climb.
