TE Pat Freiermuth

Some media personnel have claimed that Pat Freiermuth has been among the most impressive players at training camp. For many, Freiermuth was already quite well known entering the NFL, as the big Penn State tight end was often linked to Pittsburgh during the pre-draft process. However, it seems like he is somehow managing to exceed early expectations.

From most reports, Freiermuth has been catching everything thrown in his direction and is quick to pick things up. Obviously, this is still practice in shorts, and the real test will come later this summer during padded practices and throughout the preseason.

This past offseason, the Steelers lost Vance McDonald to retirement, but he was no longer the same player we saw in 2018. Likewise, Eric Ebron didn’t do much to impress last year, despite high hopes upon his arrival in Pittsburgh.

Historically, it takes a while to develop tight ends in the NFL, as they typically have many assignments. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if Pat Freiermuth started to cut into some of Ebron’s snaps in 2021. He should be the better blocker from the gate and could be much more reliable as a pass-catcher. He’s one of the players to watch during Steelers training camp.
