Biggest competition: Joshua Dobbs

Dwayne Haskins still has a long way to go, but it’s clear that the Pittsburgh Steelers view him ahead of Josh Dobbs at this point in time. To kick off training camp, Haskins has continually run the third-team offense over Dobbs in each practice.

Now it will be up to Haskins to do enough moving forward throughout training camp and the preseason to keep Dobbs off his heels. Haskins does have a few things going for him that will help. For starters, the Steelers were reportedly very high on Haskins entering the 2019 NFL Draft. In addition, his reputation as a former 15th overall pick is probably going to afford him some added opportunities with the team this year leading up to the regular season.

While it might be a bit premature to say that Haskins is going to surpass Mason Rudolph in the pecking order to be the primary backup this year, he is third at the lowest right now, and I would argue that he has looked better than Rudolph so far. Keep an eye on his progress throughout training camp.
